Best MLB hitter matchups today by contact quality (BANG)

Every batter on tonight's MLB slate ranked by combined BANG, HeatRadar's per-PA contact-quality metric built on Statcast exit velocity, launch angle, and barrel data. The top of the board is where the matchup math says we're most likely to see loud contact tonight: a hitter making hard contact all season meeting a starter who's been giving it up. Sort by exit velocity, barrel rate, or distance to slice the rankings your own way.

Looking for batter-vs-pitcher HR history instead of matchup quality? MLB batter vs pitcher today lists every hitter with at least one career HR off tonight's starter.

How HeatRadar ranks today’s batter vs pitcher matchups

This page surfaces every batter-vs-pitcher matchup on today’s MLB slate, scored by combined BANG: the batter’s per-PA contact quality plus the opposing pitcher’s BANG-against (the contact quality he’s been giving up). The top of the list is where the matchup math actually favors the hitter: high-contact-quality bat against high-contact-quality-allowed arm, in a platoon-friendly handedness alignment if you flip the toggle on.

How to use the page for DFS and home-run props

Sort descending by combined BANG to surface the highest-quality matchups on the board. Flip the platoon toggle to filter for handedness advantage only. That’s the cleanest read for HR prop bets, since the platoon adjustment is the single biggest lever in HR rate. The picks that emerge here also feed our HR model, which applies park factor and weather on top.

For the team-level view of every game with weather and park context, see Today’s Slate. For starting pitcher hittability rankings sorted standalone, see Today’s Pitchers.

FAQ

What does “BvP” mean in baseball?

Batter vs Pitcher: the head-to-head history (and projected matchup quality) between a specific hitter and the pitcher he’s facing. Tracked because some hitters genuinely own specific arms while others have can’t-figure-him-out trends.

Where does the BvP history data come from?

MLB Statcast, pulled at the start of each game day. We only show the head-to-head line when there are 5+ PA in the sample. Anything smaller is too noisy to mean much; below that, the matchup is scored on BANG alone.

How often does the page update?

Lineups and matchups refresh four times daily (9am, 11am, 2pm, and 5pm ET) so late-confirmed starters show up within a few hours of the team announcement.
